A man who risked his life to save two babies from the sixth floor of a burning building has been hailed as a “hero” for his act of bravery and compassion.
The fire had engulfed a building in Paris, but Fousseynou Cissé said he “didn’t think twice” as he risked himself outside a window to help those trapped inside.
In a video that went viral on social media, he can be seen helping a five-month-old baby out of the building and handing the child to a man in the neighboring building, before doing the same with a one-year-old.
The 39-year-old janitor also rescued two other children and two adults from the burning building during the fire that occurred last Friday (4th).
“Given the amount of smoke, they and their children could have suffocated. Their last hope was to jump out the window. Their lives were in danger. I didn’t think twice,” he told the French newspaper Le Parisien.
According to local media outlets, ten residents were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. “I thought I was going to die with my children,” said Naomi, one of the mothers rescued, after the fire.
